|Cynthia is a graduate of Lakeland College Master of Arts Program in Community Counseling as well as a Post Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Family Therapy Training Institute in Milwaukee. She has been practicing since 2005, working with behaviorally difficult adolescents, children and their families both in the Treatment Foster System as well as private therapy using a Trauma Informed approach to promote healing within the individual as well as their family. Cynthia believes that a systemic approach to healing provides the most lasting benefits to the family as a whole, while at the same time, using the client centered approach to promote self-acceptance, improve self-esteem and increase confidence in relationships through positive communication skills. Cynthia believes in taking a collaborative approach with clients and using their strengths to encourage change and overcome difficulties.
Cynthia has been extensively trained in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skills, mindfulness, and calming techniques to assist the individual with anxiety and to cope with the many changes in a client’s life. She has been trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which can benefit an individual feeling discomfort due to past traumatic events as well as Forward Facing Trauma Therapy.
Cynthia has led group trainings in effective parenting using various behavioral modification techniques such as 123 Magic, Love & Logic, Scott Sells Working with the Difficult Adolescent and Bryan Posts Love Based Family Centered Approach. She has worked with adoptive families facing post adoption difficulties as well as with non-custodial parents who desire to be reunited with their children. Cynthia has also worked with pre and post-divorce families on working through the difficulties of reorganizing the family structure and finding the “new normal” of the family members.
